Carolyn Gregory

Soundless at Seven Miles

I have always wanted to go down
to the bottom of things
like the Mariana Trench
where electric fish roam

Sinking down in my green bathing suit,
I would say goodbye to my parents
with promises I would bring back
stories from the mud

of goblin sharks eating squid
while skimming soundlessly
by radar

Would happily take my bathyscaphe
down with iron shot for ballast,
gasoline for buoyancy,
dropping between tectonic plates
explorer of the deep Pacific
