TOO SOON
A small bee lands
in the heart of her hand.
Yellow and black stripes
contract and expand.
A careful touch
softness so lush
uncontrolled desire
to cling, to clutch.
Honey filled lungs
a small girl too young.
Squeezed her hand shut—
shocked, and stung.
No longer curious,
desire forgotten.
One hand on her heart
the other covered in pollen.
