Fraying Beliefs

 

Somehow,
despite evidence to the contrary,
some of us still believe
in a fraying system
more from lack of alternatives
than confidence in the future.
And as the few devour relentlessly
the fruits that should nourish many,
there is an absence of joy
in daily function
as we go through the motions
of building tomorrow,
yet secretly fear
looming troubles.

 

 

 

 

 

Gary Beck spent most of his life as a theater director. He has twelve published chapbooks and three accepted, eleven published poetry collections, five accepted for publication.
