Ebbs of Wonder
Sometimes when I sit
before the ocean,
my mind stretches
across surprising worlds,
flecks of blue, tidbits
of sorrow as my dog’s
ears hear my internal
whispers for a budding
tomorrow, nestled inside
the branches of yesterday,
stretched across the perimeters
of a bird’s wing span
and wonderings about
how to fly, as poets
try to figure out which
word to pluck from their
confused bucket and drop
into the medley which
one day in their dreams
will blossom into a verse.
