10 Years After Rita, Painting

Artist Statement:
This painting is from a picture I took while camping at Sam Houston State Park in Moss Bluff, La. in the early fall of 2015. A decade earlier – nearly to the day – Hurricane Rita came ashore and destroyed much of Southwest Louisiana. I painted this picture in 2020 and then watched from afar as my temporary home of Lake Charles, La endured two hurricanes within a span of six weeks.
