HOME

                        for Dd

Take my hand and let’s walk.
It’s a warm morning,
sun cresting the hillside.
Be careful,
the path is slippery.
We’re almost there.
When we stop
there will be a few boats
bobbing, a cluster
of small houses—
some in pastels
or shades of white and blue.
Gulls will squawk,
they always do.
There will be crows
that follow us
wherever we go,
eagles, Canada geese,
turkeys not so sure.
A few more steps—
close your eyes.
Can you feel the warmth,
hear the birds,
smell the salty sea?
