GROCERY SHOPPING IN SHEDIAC NEW BRUNSWICK

Rain pelts the windows,
cascades down the eaves,
creates puddles in the parking lot
as cars roll up to the door, let out
a passenger, usually a woman,
many older with gray hair, no hat,
no raincoat or umbrella hustling inside
then the man drives off making
the turn back in line to the front door
where soon she’ll return pushing
a cart or carrying an armload of bags
as he pops the trunk and she loads it up.
I’m sure when they drive away
she’s hopeful of less rain next Saturday.
