Winter 2026 Submissions are OPEN!

MockingHeart Friends! Happy December!

The end of the year is fast approaching, but so is the first issue of 2026! And both of these milestones are worth celebrating.

For the Winter issue, you can submit from today until December 31st. The nights are getting frosty even here in Louisiana, and it’s more and more tempting to stay in. With that focus in mind, the theme for this issue is Reclusiveness. Send us your work that explores being insular, away from the action, or focused solely on the self. We can’t wait to see it.

We hope you’re staying healthy, happy, and inspired. Keep on keepin’ on, friends–and as always, thank you for the excellent work you do in the world.

Happy Labor Day!

MockingHeart Friends! Happy Labor Day!

Submissions to the Fall 2025 issue closed at midnight—and now is the time for celebrating all the good work you and your fellow writers do. We’re so proud of you for your steadfast dedication to the writing life, and to the work you do in the other areas of your life as well. It’s inspiring!

Be sure to thank those around you for their own good work, and take the time to savor the excellence that you and they have cultivated. The world is a better place for you being in it, and Labor Day is the perfect occasion to celebrate that resounding truth.

Incidentally, in exactly two weeks (on September 15th), MockingHeart Review will celebrate its ten-year anniversary! That’s rewarding work worth celebrating too. Thanks for making it possible, dear friends.

A Note for Our Founding Editor

MockingHeart friends! Thanks for keeping up with our side of the literary world, and for your time and care in reading and submitting to MHR. A reminder that the Fall 2025 issue is now open to submissions.

As you think of writing and of the folks who engage in it, please keep in your thoughts MockingHeart Review‘s Founding Editor, Clare L. Martin, who is currently fighting the good fight against gallbladder cancer. If you can contribute to her battle during this difficult time, you would be helping a generous writer and caring person who has touched many lives. Of course, Clare would also appreciate some words of encouragement if you have the time to reach out.

Thanks for all you do, friends, and for your continuing good work in the world.

MockingHeart Friends! Happy August!

Here we are, smack in the middle of 2025–and it’s been a tumultuous, busy year so far! And we’re already getting in the spirit. Halloween decor now graces the shelves of many stores, and that one pumpkin drink will be back this month at that one big coffee chain. For the Fall issue, you can submit from today until August 31st. As we move gradually toward the the cooler part of the year, following one’s compass can help us make it all the way through. With movement on the mind, the theme for this issue is Mobility.

We hope you’re staying healthy, happy, and inspired. Keep on keepin’ on, friends–and as always, thank you for the excellent work you do in the world.
